Study Island Update: Elementary

What is Study Island all about?
We are fortunate to be able to provide Study Island for our 2-6 grade students this year. Study Island is an online tool to help students prepare for the MAP. It is fun for kids because they are learning while playing engaging games. Students can access Study Island anywhere there is internet. It is great for teachers because you can customize review and practice for your students. You can retrieve all kinds of reports/data to help guide your instruction.

When should I use it?
Study Island is great for tutoring. It is wonderful for students to use as a resource at home. You can use your extra computer lab or mobile lab time for students to work on Study Island. It will become especially helpful after Christmas as we pull out all the stops with MAP prep.

How do I get started?
Each building has representatives that will attend Study Island training on Sept.22. They will in turn train their staff on a Monday in October during your building PD opportunities. The computer teachers are setting up the class lists and getting the program ready for you to use in the next few weeks.

Is this just one more thing I have to do?
Study Island is not one more thing, but rather a valuable resource to help you with things you are already doing such as tutoring and MAP prep. I will be sharing tips on how to best use Study Island with your students in the weeks to come. Right now.. just get in the groove of school and take a leisurely cruise to Study Island!
