Short Texts Online

Who needs some awesome short texts to use in your lessons? Here are some of my free favorites that students really enjoy!

Newsela: Leveled texts with quizzes. There is a free version and a paid version. The free version gives you access to articles and quizzes. The paid version provides a teacher/student portal that includes record keeping.

Wonderopolis: This has been a favorite for a long time! Each wonder includes a video, text that can be read aloud, and extension activities. No membership or log ins needed! Totally free.

TT Junior/Tween Tribune: Free resources from Smithsonian. They do provide lexiled text.

Read Works: Free informational text and lesson plans. You do need to set up a log in, but there is no membership needed.

We Give Books: Coolest site ever! Read favorite full text books online and help out needy kids everywhere! No log in necessary.

Oscar is a little dog with a big problem. The other dogs constantly tease him! 😣

That is, until Halloween... 🐾

Enjoy this spunky soundscape that captures Oscar’s personality! His journey proves that a little wiener can be a real winner https://bit.ly/3zaZzds 🌭 #EduTwitter

Ever since studying with Katie Wood Ray at the @TCRWP summer institute in 1994, I have been obsessed with teaching with mentor texts. Now I've written a book about this topic, coming out next month! You can preorder it at https://www.heinemann.com/products/e13281.aspx.

We kicked off our 3rd Grade PBL with a Firefighter, EMT, Nurse, and Police Officer visit and brainstormed how we want to show them appreciation for everything they do for us. The kids are so excited for the expo! We love our first responders!🚑🚔🚒🚨@HumbleISD_DWE @drlorielliott

It takes a big heart to teach little minds. Thank you teachers for everything you do to help us grow up smarter, stronger, and kinder. #WorldTeachersDay
